For my double page spread, I started by drawing out crocodiles that I could include. From doing the character design and development it helped me to create different crocodile characters.
Once I had drawn the crocodiles, i scanned them into Photoshop and changed the threshold and levels to make the outline of the crocodiles thicker. I chose to include some of the crocodiles, in which I arranged them to look like they are all layered on top of each other. I made them different sizes to create a busy look on the double page spread.
When I had arranged the crocodiles to how I wanted them on the double page, I grouped them all together and then went on to merge them together, so that I could colour them with green. I chose to use the colour green, as it is a colour that is associated with crocodiles. After i had coloured them in with green, I used the colour pink to go over some of the crocodiles to create a overlay look. I changed the layer to darken, which would create the brown colour on the crocodiles. I moved some of the colour layers so that it is not clean and crisp, which will make it look more like a double page for a children's book.
After, I had coloured the crocodiles, i drew out the zookeeper to then go onto the double page. Once I had drawn it out, I scanned it into Photoshop and changed the threshold and levels as well.
I placed the zookeeper on the double page and coloured him using the same colours and style as the crocodiles.
Once it was all coloured I created a brush using a texture which i had found. I used the brush to make it and give the double page a more handmade feel to it. By using the texture brush it gave the double page more character.
I then found another different texture to use for the background of the double page spread. I changed the hue, saturation and brightness of the texture, to make it contrast well with the characters on the double page spread.
I then started to put in the type for this double page. I went on to Dafont and found and tried out different typefaces.
I chose to use Times New Roman for the type, as it legible, simple and clear to read. I changed the size and colour of the "Fire You!' as i wanted to emphasise it and make it protrude. I used pink and green colour for the type, so that it would contrast with the design of the double page spread. This is my final double page spread.
